Movie magic

So I was watching this movie called Momentum.  It was about some folks with telekinetic powers.  As far as I could tell, other than these powers, they appeared to be normal human beings.  Several of them get shot and die in the movie.  Then I see this scene where Teri Hatcher, playing a highly trained FBI special agent, grabs this big heavy pipe and hits this dude like she was trying to hit a home run.  I’m thinking the result should be that the guy would drop like a sack of potatoes.  Instead he shrugs it off like a mosquito bite and uses his telekinetic skills to take the pipe away.  I can suspend disbelief, but it needs to be on a consistent basis.
